Locally, the music scene in Central Florida seems to be coming alive with many bands that are definitely contenders for record deals and national tours. On Saturday, January 21st one of those bands played in direct support of the band Fuel, known world wide for such songs as Hemmorage and Falls on Me. The band is called Lit Up. This is my third time seeing Lit Up. Each time I have seen them has been better than the last. The show was at Bad Habit Lounge, formerly Sick Boys, in Daytona Beach. This is the ultimate rock venue we have in Central Florida and always a great place to see a live show in an intimate setting. Local promoter Derrick Butler, owner of Big D Entertainment, brought this show and stay tuned to this page because he is bringing many more national artists to our area and supporting the local bands as well.
Lit Up are a band from Central Florida made up of Danny Comer on vocals, Tee Jay Velorian on guitar, Josh Lough on drums and Randy James on bass. Formed in the fall of 2010, they bring a heavy, alternative style of original music to the stage. The show is very high energy with a "we're coming at you" attitude. Danny's vocals are strong and defined. Tee Jay stands 6'8 so not only does he stand tall but his playing stands out as the only guitar in the band with a style similar to Mick Mars. Josh keeps the beat on his Pearl drumkit and perhaps the most "active" band member is Randy who reminds me of Rudy Sarzo twisting, flipping, and moving himself and his bass all around the stage. On this night the band performs their original songs like Dead Man Walking and Attention Whore, among others. Out of three bands performing before them, they were the only one called back for an encore. The crowd was fired up, supporting the band with their Lit Up t-shirts and glow sticks handed out by the band. Despite the comparisons to their influences, they certainly are musicians in their own right and are working hard at promoting themselves and getting a record deal. To find out more about the band, please visit their website at www.getlitupnow.com as they have many shows coming up at various venues around the Central Florida area and beyond.
